ASPHALT / BITUMEN
Bitumen, also known as asphalt, is a sticky, black and highly viscous liquid or semi solid present in most crude petroleums and in some natural deposits. Bitumen is primarily used in road construction, where it is used as the glue or binder mixed with aggregate particles to create asphalt concrete. It is also commonly used for bituminous waterproofing products, including production of roofing felt and for sealing flat roofs.
Our company supplies two different types of Bitumen, i.e. Bitumen Penetration Grade 60/70 and 80/100. 80/100 is commonly used in Malaysia before 1st May 2017, however currently bitumen grade 60/70 is highly prefered.
Bitumen 60/70 is more concentrated compared with grade 80/100, thus the resurfaced road would have a higher stiffness, and therefore would have the capacity to withstand higher traffic load. Based on foreign studies, bitumen penetration grade 60/70 could withstand a higher traffic load of up to 21%. It also increases the road's life span by up to 18% compared with bitumen penetration grade 80/100.
